Ladue News Show House 2015
For the past five years, Ladue News in St Louis, MO has sponsored a designer show house. This year’s home belonged to well-known car dealer; his TV ads and jingle are legendary in the St. Louis area. I was thrilled to participate in the show house, with proceeds going to the SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.
I was assigned the sunroom, a light-filled, 20′ x 20′ space with brick walls off of the living room. Scale and proportion are always important considerations, so in this open space with windows on three sides I selected furniture substantial in size (nothing delicate or petite) and fabrics with open, large patterns.
For the design style I chose a combination of 40’s French modern and Chinoiserie Chic, a balanced pairing of modern and traditional elements.
The traditional elements are in the black Asian style chairs and fabric patterns which include toile, floral and fretwork.
1940’s French Modern is reflected in the Tuxedo Sideboard in a vanilla painted finish from Hickory Chair, the Huxley Secretary from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, and the stunning Bevilacqua Chandelier from Currey & Company.
The design of the sunroom, part den, part salon, gave me the opportunity to design a space the reflects my own aesthetic, a classic design with modern elements added.
Participating in the show house was a wonderful experience. I enjoyed the process of taking a completely empty space and designing a room that was filled with not only beautiful furnishings and fabrics but also with a personality and a sense of purpose.
Watch for a glimpse of my space on KSDK’s Show Me St. Louis.
